A Theology of Technology

Technology can be a little scary. Like a big brain, Facebook, for example, can bring back images and other content from years’ past. Unlike a real brain, where we can filter what content we might choose to reveal, FB content is for all practical purposes public. Yes, we have the option to share or not to share; however at some point, that “remembered” content was shared. However, in real brains, there is a lot of content that we have seen and experienced that stayed unknown except to the content originators - us and God. Our thoughts, communications, and decisions on what we share or not share are largely voluntary so, for the most part we can be intentional in our revelations. Meanwhile, as we live our lives and post content, it’s prudent, especially for Christians, to seek God’s guidance about shareable content because our posts not only have an impact on us but could have unintended consequences that impacts or influences others as well. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6. Amen!
